Carlos Mama's Broke ended his set at the 50th anniversary of Woodstock at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts with gratitude, goodness, and panache. With fluid sinuous lines snaking through, Carlos plays like a man transformed by the music, expanding into the hearts and souls of his listeners through his hands and fingers. He is, simply, one of the best and most easily identified guitarists of his generation or any. If you missed this one, you'll have to get tickets for the 100th anniversary of Woodstock! A splendid night with a consummate artist at a place he loves, playing the music he loves, with the light of his being. But for us original Woodstock veterans, and there were not an overwhelming number of us at the 50th, he is the spirit of Woodstock - sharing with your neighbor, loving each other and joining together against the dark forces in our midst. Santana rules. Be the light. Most surprising was a rendition of the Youngblood’s ‘Get Together’ with its refrain of ‘Come on people now, Smile on your brother, Everybody get together, Try to love one another right now’. There were so many great songs in the set - Soul Sacrifice, Jingo, Evil Ways, Black Magic Woman, Europa, Maria, Africa Rocks, and others.
